My actual heart is breaking. I live downtown, have for the last 8 years and what drew me here were places like Cole’s. To think that 117 years means nothing and they can shut the doors just like that…but, should I be surprised when The Original Pantry is the same? Something must be done to save these businesses.
The Original Pantry also was not listed for sale as a business before closing down, which is troubling. 117 years means a lot! We do sympathize with how difficult it is to run a physical business in L.A., and especially downtown. But just walking away shouldn't be an option here.
How much would it cost to take Cole's off your hands, Cedd? Somebody out there will!
Well you said it all here, and Cole's can't close. I lived across the street next building over during the pandemic and how many times I walked by with my dog, I cannot count. Cole's radiates historic Los Angeles, I'm really into your idea to "put the thumb on the scale" for small businesses to receive the favor that developers get now. You're a step ahead of city planners in your thinking; this is a nail-biter, WILL SOMEONE PLEASE LISTEN?!
Same ownership has also shut Broadway Bar next to the Orpheum.
Wonder what will happen to Paul Greenstein's beautiful neon sign?
