Stunning reporting. The detail about the benefits office not investigating after the 2017 Times story really encapsulates how citybureaucracy protects its own regardless of wrongdoing. I've seen this dynamic play out in other municipalities where the institutional reflex is always to circle wagons rather than enforce accountability.

Thank you! It got even more crazy making today, with testimony of all the ethics training councilmembers are required to take, with no consequences for intentional misreporting of known financial assets (a spouse's business). It doesn't seem like the Ethics Commission is there to hold anyone accountable.

Thumb drives! Why did Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price send a staffer all the way to Inglewood to pick up a two page spreadsheet of his wife's clients on a tiny device instead of having it emailed? If for purpose of public records request avoidance, it's a big deal.

Curren Price preliminary hearing day two: an indictment not just of the councilmember, but the abject failure of the city's Ethics Commission and the City Attorney to monitor blatant deception on public filings year over year.
