Hope for the Renaissance Revival M. Flax Artists' Materials Building (1925) on MacArthur Park
Gentle reader,
If you read last night’s newsletter and share our concerns about the demolition permit that was submitted for the lovely building at 2416-20 West Seventh Street on MacArthur Park, you’ll be happy to read the email we just received from Ken Bernstein of the Office of Historic Resources.
Ken writes, “I'm away until next week, but had meant to let you know that we successfully got DBS to add a historic resource clearance to this permit, so these issues will be thoroughly evaluated.”
Our interpretation of the lingering powers of the redevelopment agency was correct!
We’re so pleased that potential demolition has been paused for the M. Flax Artists' Materials Building, and will keep you informed about future opportunities to be heard. If you’d still like to send an email expressing your concern about the possible loss of the building, please do!
yours for Los Angeles,
