Gentle reader,

One day, a person born in 2022 is going to ask, “What did you do in the pandemic?”

And we’ll lift our grizzled heads and smile into the middle distance, recalling a time of furious work, when we researched and hosted more than three dozen immersive Los Angeles history webinars that were streamed live to folks all over the world, and mostly here at home.

Although we’d always resisted requests to film Esotouric tours for later broadcast, believing the whole point was getting strangers together to explore in person, we’re glad the pandemic forced us to reconsider going virtual. Producing these webinars gave us a sense of purpose and community, kept the lights on, and sent us down fresh research rabbit holes we might never have explored otherwise. We learned, and laughed, so much!

While some nasty bugs are still going around, it’s not so easy to gather a lot of people to watch something at the same time now. So while we’ll still be offering live streams when it’s the best way to tell a breaking preservation story, it’s time that our webinar channel and archives had a new home.

Introducing Esotouric's Deep Los Angeles History, a subscription based streaming channel (disguised as a newsletter) where you can choose from dozens of L.A.-centric programs, on themes ranging from true crime, literature, landmarks, cemeteries and legacy businesses to historic preservation, crafting, neon signs, infrastructure, photography and the movies.
