Greetings from your friendly historic Los Angeles sightseeing tour company, now offering digital programming until we can again organize groups to gather and explore the city we love.

For our latest post that’s hidden from the rest of the internet, we’d like to share our visit to one of the most beautiful time capsule interiors in Los Angeles—a treasure we didn’t expect to see at all.

It all started one day last month, when we found ourselves at First and Chicago Streets in Boyle Heights, seeking to sleuth out the origins of the mystery streetlights installed in the pocket park. Turns out, they’re Frankenstein’d together from random spare parts, and not historic lamps at all.

This was disappointing, but since we were so close to the old Hollenbeck Presbyterian Church anyway, we strolled over to admire the pretty wooden sanctuary behind its tall gates, and gripe that we’d never had the opportunity to go inside. With so much stained glass, it must be a pretty sight.
