LA's dedicated housing for vets is supposed to be on the 19th century Old Soldiers' Home campus in Sawtelle, which has been the subject of lawsuits because no housing was available. The property was gifted to the government for that purpose by Arcadia Bandini. New buildings and restoration of derelict ones are finally in the pipeline now.
These units are existing naturally occurring affordable housing for regular Angelenos, and the mayor should direct her General Managers at City Planning and LADBS and LA Housing Department to ensure these and others like them are protected. It's city policy that they are not safe.
Why doesn't the mayor get the VA to step in and use some of those billions in the military coffers to refurbish these units for homeless vets?!
